URUGA 42 Rubber Model [UG03-RBKNWH-SSD]
White dial, black rubber, steel case: the URUGA 42 in its highest-contrast form, and the easiest of the line to read at a glance.
MINASE builds the URUGA 42 around a clamping structure. Four voluminously cut clasps, each an elaborately faceted section of bezel, hold the case and the sapphire crystal together, a construction the brand traces to the prong settings used to secure gemstones in jewelry. It is a different idea from the case-in-case architecture MINASE uses elsewhere, and it leaves the case looking cut rather than assembled. The crystal has a slight vertical curvature, so the dial appears to sit under a shallow lens.
Under it, the white dial shows the horizontal gradation the collection takes from the Minase River in Akita, which reads more clearly on a pale ground than on a dark one. Obliquely cut indices, shaped after the front of a kimono, break the light instead of bouncing it back flat. The steel case is 42.0 mm across, 48.0 mm long including the lugs and 10.2 mm thick with the crystal, and the self-winding MINASE calibre KT7002 sits inside, a Swiss ETA 2892 and Sellita SW300 base finished and decorated by MINASE, with a date.
Water resistance is 5 atm, enough for rain and a splash. On rubber it becomes a legible, unfussy watch for daily wear.
Perfect for: white dial sport-casual watches, high-legibility automatic buyers, rubber strap watch wearers.
