S.A.R. Rescue-Timer — Black Dial / Black Rubber
Black dial, black rubber bezel, black rubber strap. This is the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer in the form it was designed in, and nothing about it is decorative.
Mühle-Glashütte approached the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service in March 2001 with a proposal to develop the Rescue-Timer as a watch that could survive the way its crews work. The requirements were shaped by the coxswains: high contrast, heavy luminous material, a rounded edge-free case, and a soft rubber bezel that protects the person being pulled from the water. The first watches were handed over in February 2002.
The steel case is matte-finished with a bead-blasted crown, 42.0 mm across, 13.5 mm tall and 47.6 mm lug to lug. A 4 mm double anti-reflective sapphire crystal, roughly three times the thickness of a standard one, sits over a high-contrast black dial with a magnifier at the date at 4 o'clock. The caseback is solid and screwed down. 100 bar. Inside, the SW 200-1 Version Mühle automatic, 41 hours, with Mühle's patented woodpecker neck regulation holding its rate through shock.
The definitive version. It looks like precisely what it is.
Perfect for: professional-grade tool watches, black rubber strap sports watches, sea rescue watch collectors.
