NAOS Automatic black-red silver / Milanaise 20 silver
One red detail on a black dial does more work than a dozen. It gives the eye somewhere to land and gives the design something to be about.
Sternglas builds the NAOS Automatik around exactly that sort of restraint. The Naos is the Hamburg brand's core model and its most reduced dial, drawn on Bauhaus-inspired principles of sans-serif type, baton indices and high contrast, guided by the modernist maxim that form follows function, coined by the architect Louis Sullivan in 1896 and later a watchword of the Bauhaus. The automatic version won an iF Design Award in 2020.
This configuration pairs the black dial and its red accent with a silver-tone 316L stainless steel case of 38 mm, on a Milanaise bracelet in matching silver. The Milanese mesh is 316L steel, 2.5 mm thick, with a sliding clasp that adjusts to any length rather than to fixed holes, and it detaches without tools. A Miyota 8215 automatic supplies the time and date with a 42-hour reserve, and the six-screw caseback is glazed so the rotor stays in view. Sapphire crystal, double anti-reflective coating, 5 bar.
Mesh softens a monochrome dial. This is the version to choose if you want the black Naos to feel less austere.
Perfect for: black dial automatic watches, Milanese mesh bracelet watches, minimalist German watch design.
