The phoenix on this bezel was engraved by hand, by a master of Japanese metalsmithing. In Japan the bird carries associations of good fortune, nobility and long life, and it has been a subject for metalworkers for centuries.
This is a limited edition within the G-SHOCK MR-G line, the flagship series that began in 1996 and is assembled at Yamagata Casio on the Premium Production Line by a single technician per watch.
The case measures 54.7 by 49.8 by 16.9 mm, in titanium finished with a green diamond-like coating, a diamond-like coating and brown arc ion plating on the bezel, so the engraving sits against several tones of metal rather than one. A Dura Soft rubber band closes on a one-touch three-fold clasp. Sapphire crystal, 200 meters of water resistance, Tough Solar charging, Multi Band 6 radio calibration and Bluetooth.
The engraving is the reason to want it, and it holds up to close inspection because it was cut rather than stamped. For a collector who wants genuine handwork on a watch that can still take a knock.
