Akazonae, or red arms, described the units in Japan's Warring States period that were outfitted entirely in red. Commanders used the color to mark out their best troops, and it has read as strength ever since.
This G-SHOCK MR-G takes that palette onto a black titanium case. MR-G has been the flagship line since 1996, built at Yamagata Casio on the Premium Production Line by a single technician per watch.
The case measures 54.7 by 49.8 by 16.9 mm, titanium with deep layer hardening under a diamond-like coating, with red worked through the dial and detailing rather than applied across it. The dial perimeter is cut to suggest a folding screen, and the indices carry the curve of a sword blade in a grind-mark finish. A solid titanium bracelet with a tight-lock three-fold clasp. Sapphire crystal, 200 meters of water resistance, Tough Solar, Multi Band 6 and Bluetooth.
The red does the work here, and it is used with restraint. For a wearer who wants the reference to land without the watch becoming a costume.
