HAMBURG new graphite silver / Vintage 20 mocha

Mocha brown is an unexpected partner for a graphite dial and a convincing one. The Sternglas HAMBURG in new graphite on Vintage leather ends up warmer than the dial color suggests it should.

HAMBURG is the brand's homage to the city where it has worked since 2016, and its dials take after nautical measuring instruments rather than the pared-back markers Sternglas uses elsewhere in the range. The result is a watch you can read across a room, in a 42 mm case sized to suit it.

New graphite is a satin, gently domed dial color rather than an edition, and here it sits in a silver-tone stainless steel case with 20 mm lugs, a quartz movement, and a date display. The crystal is double-domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both sides; the rating is 5 bar. The Vintage strap in mocha is a mid-brown leather, and it is what turns a cool dial into a warm watch.

A good middle path for someone who finds black straps severe and tan too casual.
