A deep blue dial under a gold-toned case is a combination borrowed from naval dress, and the Sternglas HAMBURG Automatik Edition Marine wears it without raising its voice.

The HAMBURG line is Sternglas's tribute to the city the brand has called home since 2016. Where most of the catalog leans on pure Bauhaus reduction, Hamburg borrows instead from the measuring instruments of seafaring: bold Arabic numerals, a fine minute scale running around the outer edge, and Luminova on the hands and indices. The Edition Marine adds a screwed caseback engraved with a windjammer under sail.

This configuration puts the 42 mm gold-toned case and dark blue dial on a Heritage strap in black. That strap is 4 mm cowhide with an alligator emboss, built by a full-fold process, on 20 mm lugs with the brand's tool-free quick-change fitting. Driving it is a Miyota 8215 automatic with a 42-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, hand-winding and a date. Double-domed sapphire with double anti-reflective coating covers the dial, and the case is rated to 5 bar.

Black leather keeps the gold honest. Of the Edition Marine strap options this is the most formal, and the one that disappears most easily under a dark cuff.
