In 1983 the first G-SHOCK was resin, because metal transmits shock and resin does not. Thirty-five years later Casio built the same watch entirely out of stainless steel and made it work anyway.
The GMW-B5000D-1 is the full metal square: the DW-5000C outline rendered in steel, case, bezel and bracelet, with the shock structure rebuilt to suit a material that had been ruled out at the start. It is the reference most people mean when they say Full Metal, and the one G-SHOCK's own metal line is measured against.
The case is 49.3 by 43.2 mm and 13 mm deep, 167 grams on a solid steel bracelet with a one-touch three-fold clasp and a screw-lock back. The dial stays digital and stays legible, lit by a Super Illuminator backlight with afterglow. Module 3459 runs on Tough Solar, so the battery is never opened, and sets itself two ways: Multi Band 6 radio calibration and Bluetooth to the CASIO WATCHES app. World time covers 39 zones, and it is accurate to fifteen seconds a month even with both left off. 200 m water resistant.
Heavy in the way a steel bracelet is heavy, and unbothered by anything short of deliberate abuse. A watch you stop taking off.
