The first G-SHOCK was the DW-5000C. Everything since has been a variation on it, and this is the reference that goes furthest back toward the original.
The DW-5000R is a 5600 Series model built to the earlier specification: a stainless steel inner case under the resin, a screw-lock back, and the narrower 42.3 mm width of the first-generation square rather than the modern 42.8. That steel core is what separates it from a standard DW-5600 and what takes it to 76 grams.
All black, in a case 48.9 by 42.3 mm and 13.1 mm deep, on a band made from biomass plastics. The Super Illuminator backlight carries afterglow. Module 3576 runs a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, an alarm and a full auto-calendar, on a five-year battery. 200 m water resistant.
For people who want the 1983 watch rather than the 1983 shape. Denser on the wrist, and better finished than the standard square.
