29er — White Dial / Beige Canvas
White dials get called classic so often that the word stops meaning much. On the Mühle-Glashütte 29er it means something you can point at: applied indices catching the light off an otherwise plain surface, a date at 3 o'clock, and nothing on the face that isn't doing a job.
The name comes from sailing, not from a measurement. The 29er is the two-person dinghy that trains young crews for the Olympic 49er, and when Mühle introduced this watch in 2006 it had the same idea in mind: a first proper Glashütte automatic. The maritime streak runs right through the line, from the canvas straps to the deliberate absence of a rotating bezel.
Here the white dial is paired with a beige canvas strap on quick-release spring bars, in a stainless steel case of 36.6 mm by 10.4 mm and 42.6 mm from lug to lug. The movement is the SW 200-1, Version Mühle: a Swiss automatic rebuilt in Glashütte with Mühle's patented woodpecker neck regulation, then adjusted to run between zero and eight seconds fast per day. Forty-one hours of reserve, stop-seconds for exact setting, anti-reflective sapphire, an exhibition caseback and 10 bar of water resistance.
Compact, light and quietly legible, it slides under a shirt cuff and asks nothing of you.
Perfect for: white dial automatic watches, smaller 36 mm cases, first German watch purchases.
