Most chronographs hide their engineering behind a solid back. Mühle-Glashütte leaves a sapphire window in this one, and what sits behind it is the Glashütte three-quarter plate, the movement architecture the town has used since 1864.

That plate belongs to the MU 9413, Mühle's own caliber and the reason the 29er Chronograph leads its family. The 29er line itself was launched in 2006 and named after the 29er sailing dinghy, the training class for the Olympic 49er, chosen as a metaphor for an accessible route into Glashütte watchmaking. The caliber is built on a Swiss base, reworked, finished and regulated in Glashütte, and holds 62 hours.

Here the dial is white with applied indices and Super-LumiNova, small seconds, and the date at four o'clock. The stainless steel case measures 42.4 mm wide by 14.2 mm high, 49 mm from lug to lug, and rides on a black pigskin strap with a steel pin buckle, 122 grams on the wrist. Anti-reflective sapphire, screw-down crown, 10 bar of pressure resistance.

Black leather and a white dial is the oldest chronograph formula there is. This one has a better reason than most to be turned over.

Perfect for: Glashütte movement enthusiasts, black leather chronograph seekers, display caseback collectors.
