29er Big — Black Dial / Coffee Brown Canvas

Brown canvas on a black dial is the closest the 29er Big comes to a field watch. Nothing about the formula is complicated: a matte strap, a high-contrast face, and a Mühle-Glashütte automatic behind an exhibition caseback.

Mühle borrowed the name from a boat. The 29er dinghy is where young crews learn before moving to the Olympic 49er, and the watch was designed in 2006 in the same spirit, as a first Glashütte automatic rather than a simplified one. Six generations of the Mühle family have now worked in the town.

The black dial holds applied indices coated with Super-LumiNova, luminous hands and a date at 3 o'clock. Steel case, 42.4 by 11.3 mm, screw-down crown, anti-reflective sapphire, 10 bar. The coffee brown canvas strap measures 22 mm at the lugs and fastens with a steel pin buckle. Inside is the SW 200-1, Version Mühle: 41 hours of reserve, stop-seconds, and Mühle's shock-resistant woodpecker neck fine regulation, a development of the traditional Glashütte swan neck.

Utilitarian in the good sense, and unbothered by weather or work.
