29er Big — Silver-Gray Dial / Black Pigskin
Black pigskin puts a formal edge on the silver-grey 29er Big. The dial's neutrality does the rest: this is the configuration that will sit under a suit cuff without anyone reading it as a sports watch, though Mühle-Glashütte built it as one.
Sailing supplied the name. The 29er is the youth dinghy that prepares crews for the Olympic 49er, and Mühle introduced the watch in 2006 to be someone's first Glashütte automatic. The maritime character of the line is inherited from the marine chronometers and ship's clocks the firm built after it re-started in 1994.
42.4 mm stainless steel case, 11.3 mm tall, sapphire on both faces, screw-down crown, 10 bar. Silver-grey dial with applied Super-LumiNova indices and the date at 3 o'clock. A 22 mm black pigskin strap on a steel pin buckle. The SW 200-1, Version Mühle automatic gives 41 hours, and Mühle publishes its own rate tolerance for it, zero to a maximum of eight seconds fast per day, rather than leaving it unstated.
Restrained, legible and adaptable, which makes it the least demanding watch in a demanding size.
Perfect for: grey dial dress-casual watches, black leather strap automatics, office wear.
