29er — Mint Dial / Black Pigskin
Black leather makes the mint dial look intentional rather than seasonal. The contrast is hard, the dial is pale, and the 29er ends up somewhere between a dress watch and a weekend one. Mühle-Glashütte has made watches in the Saxon town of Glashütte since the mid-1990s, and instruments there since 1869.
The 29er name comes from the sailing dinghy that trains young crews for the Olympic 49er. Mühle applied the idea to watchmaking in 2006: a straightforward automatic, built to Glashütte standards, meant to be someone's way into the subject.
The pale green dial holds applied indices coated with Super-LumiNova and luminous hands, with the date at 3 o'clock. The steel case is 36.6 by 10.4 mm; the black pigskin strap is 18 mm with a steel pin buckle. Inside is the SW 200-1, Version Mühle, a Swiss automatic base to which Mühle fits its patented woodpecker neck fine regulator, its own weighted rotor and Glashütte finishing before adjusting the rate. 41 hours, stop-seconds, 10 bar.
Unusual enough to be noticed, restrained enough to wear to anything.
Perfect for: pale green dials, black strap contrast pairings, distinctive everyday automatics.
