TACHYMETER 2.0 black silver / Modena 20 dark brown
Dark brown sits closer to black than brown does, which is why this configuration of the Sternglas TACHYMETER 2.0 looks composed rather than contrasting. The strap shades into the dial instead of arguing with it.
Sternglas designed the TACHYMETER 2.0 as its motorsport chronograph, and it is the largest and least restrained watch in the range. The dial follows a tri-compax sector layout: a 24-hour register at three, running seconds with the date at six, and a 60-minute counter at nine. The tachymeter scale that names the watch converts a timed run over a fixed distance into average speed, and the caseback carries a rally motif engraving.
The 44 mm case is polished and brushed 316L stainless steel with an aluminum bezel insert and 10 bar of water resistance, equal to 100 meters, beneath a double-domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating. A Seiko/TMI VK63 meca-quartz movement handles the timing: quartz for accuracy, a mechanically driven chronograph for the sweep and the snap reset. The Modena strap is dark brown leather at 20 mm.
A large chronograph in quiet clothes, which is a harder trick than it sounds.
Perfect for: dark brown leather watch straps, understated large chronographs, black dial everyday chronograph wear.
