Sportivo Compass Date — Blue Dial / Steel Bracelet

The Sportivo Compass Date bezel says N, E, S and W. There is no magnet inside, and there does not need to be, because the sun and the hour hand do the work.

It is Mühle-Glashütte's most quietly clever watch. Hold it flat, aim the hour hand at the sun, and the line that bisects the angle between that hand and 12 o'clock runs south. Rotate the bezel so its S lands on that line and every cardinal direction can be read at a glance. It is a printed scale and a technique, not an instrument with a needle, and Mühle offers it for the moment a dead phone battery makes digital navigation impossible. The Sportivo line dates from 2024 and is the brand's newest.

On the matte silver steel bracelet, 177 mm to a folding clasp, the watch weighs 196 grams and turns notably more urban. The 42.5 mm stainless steel case is only 11.4 mm tall, with a compass bezel carrying a blue ceramic inlay above a blue gradient dial with an embossed texture and green accents. Dauphine hands, date at 3 o'clock, applied indices coated with Super-LumiNova. Double anti-reflective sapphire, screw-down crown, 30 bar, and an SW 200-1, Version Mühle automatic with 41 hours running through the exhibition caseback.

Slim enough to wear all week, capable enough to justify the bezel.
