S.A.R. Rescue-Timer LUMEN — Cream Dial / Black Rubber

The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service has brought more than 87,000 people back from the water since 1865. It operates 63 rescue cruisers and boats, and it is financed by voluntary donations alone. The S.A.R. Rescue-Timer LUMEN was built for the people who crew it.

Mühle-Glashütte developed the watch with that service, and its crews use it as a timer during night operations. The LUMEN version pushes the night case further than any other model in the family. Rather than luminous material applied only to hands and markers, the whole dial is coated in Super-LumiNova over a cream base, with black-coated skeletonized hands reading as dark shapes against the glow. By day the same dial simply looks cream, which is a large part of the appeal.

Here the 42.0 mm matte steel case, 13.5 mm tall, arrives on a black rubber strap with a stainless steel folding clasp: the most washable configuration in the range. Soft black rubber bezel, 4 mm double anti-reflective sapphire, date at 4 o'clock beneath a magnifier, solid screwed caseback rather than a display back. The SW 200-1, Version Mühle automatic carries Mühle's woodpecker neck regulation and stop-seconds, with 41 hours of reserve. Water resistant to 100 bar, roughly 1,000 metres.
