S.A.R. Rescue-Timer — Blue Dial / Blue Rubber
The bezel of the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer is soft rubber, and the reason is not comfort. Mühle-Glashütte specified it so that a casualty being pulled from the water cannot be injured by a sharp edge.
That requirement came from the coxswains of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service, the DGzRS, which Mühle approached in March 2001 and handed the first watches to in February 2002. The service has rescued more than 87,000 people since 1865 and is funded entirely by donations. Crews use the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer as a timer during night operations.
This is the deep matte blue version, with a blue rubber bezel and a matching blue rubber strap on a steel folding clasp. The steel case is 42.0 mm across and 13.5 mm tall but only 47.6 mm lug to lug, so it wears far more compactly than the diameter suggests. A 4 mm double anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a magnifier over the date at 4 o'clock, a solid screwed caseback, and 100 bar of water resistance. SW 200-1 Version Mühle automatic, 41 hours, and a generously lumed dial.
A rescue watch in the literal sense, in its least severe color. It reads in the dark and is built to a standard ordinary life will never test.
Perfect for: blue dial tool watches, 1000 meter water resistant automatics, professional rescue watch admirers.
