No.03 – white/gold

Take the most graphic dial MeisterSinger makes, print its numerals in gold on white, and shrink the case to 38 mm. The result is dressier than the No.03 has any right to be.

The No.03 is the automatic counterpart to the German brand's founding No.01, identical in dial language but fitted with an exhibition caseback rather than an engraved solid one. A Good Design Award followed. Each of its sizes is a distinct watch, and the 38 mm uses the slim Sellita SW300 automatic with 18 mm lugs, forgoing a date entirely so the layout stays clean.

Gold-toned double-digit numerals sit against a white ground, with the half-hour, quarter and five-minute markers printed between them. One long hand crosses all of it. MeisterSinger reworks every movement it buys for this single-hand configuration, because driving one long needle without backlash asks more of the gear train than three short ones do. The stainless steel case is water resistant to 5 bar and comes on a cognac strap.

A watch that behaves formally at dinner and still reads instantly across a meeting room.
