NAOS Automatic Bronze Alabaster 38mm / Vintage mocha

Mocha is the brown that sits between coffee and chocolate, dark enough to read as formal and warm enough not to feel severe. Against a pale alabaster dial and a bronze case it completes a palette that never once uses black.

The NAOS Automatik is the mechanical member of Sternglas's core family, and the one the Hamburg brand builds its reputation on. The name comes from architecture: the naos was the inner sanctum of a Greek temple, the essential room at the center. The dial follows the same logic, keeping only what is needed to read the time.

This dial is alabaster and gently domed, in a 38 mm stainless steel case finished in bronze. It is worn on a Vintage-line leather strap in mocha brown at 20 mm. Timekeeping comes from a Miyota 8215 automatic with a date display, 42 hours of reserve and a 21,600 vibration-per-hour beat, visible through the six-screw exhibition back. Double-domed sapphire with double anti-reflective coating keeps the dial readable at an angle; the watch is rated to 5 bar.

Warm on warm, with no hard edges anywhere in the combination. It suits brown shoes, tan coats and anyone who finds steel and black a little strict.
