NAOS Automatic Edition 60 grey silver / Modena 20 black

Gray is never arrived at by accident. It has to be chosen, and on the Naos automatic Edition 60 it is the entire argument of the dial.

Sternglas has designed in Hamburg since 2016, and the Naos is its flagship: Bauhaus-inspired, high in contrast, printed rather than decorated, with a date as the only complication. The automatic version swaps the quartz movement for a self-winding one, which adds a little depth to the case and a rotor you can feel turn as you move.

This build pairs the gray dial with a polished 316L steel case 38 mm across on 20 mm lugs, fitted to a black Modena leather strap. The automatic movement carries the date. A double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both faces sits over the dial, and water resistance is 5 bar.

Gray and black is the combination that disappears into a working week, which is usually the point of owning a mechanical watch you intend to wear every day.
