MR-G has been G-SHOCK's flagship line since 1996, where shock resistance is pursued in titanium, hand finishing and sapphire crystal. For the line's 30th anniversary Casio built the MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire, the classic G-SHOCK square case rendered in blue sapphire crystal and limited to 20 pieces worldwide. A dedicated Multi-Guard Structure for Sapphire was developed so a material this hard, and this unforgiving, could still meet the shock-resistant standard.
The case and bezel combine titanium, DLC-treated, with the blue sapphire, over a blue digital face with a bold brick pattern. It measures 51.1 by 43.2 mm, 16.5 mm deep, and weighs 121 grams on a special Dura Soft rubber strap with a new one-touch three-fold clasp. The screw-lock case back is engraved as proof of the limited edition. Module 3584 runs on Gallium Tough Solar and sets itself by Multi Band 6 radio calibration, with world time across 38 time zones, a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer and five alarms behind a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. 200 m water resistant. Made in Japan.
A collector's object first, but still a working G-SHOCK square underneath.
