The first G-SHOCK was a square. Everything the brand has argued since about shock resistance began with that shape, which is why rebuilding it in titanium was never going to be a styling exercise.
MR-G is the G-SHOCK flagship, introduced in 1996 and assembled at Yamagata Casio on the Premium Production Line, where a single technician takes one watch from start to finish. The line exists to show that a case built to survive impact can also be finished to a standard you inspect closely.
The B5000 case measures 49.4 by 43.2 mm and stands 12.9 mm tall, in titanium finished with a diamond-like coating that reads deep charcoal rather than black. The bezel is assembled from separately polished components, each one worked individually before the case goes together. A titanium bracelet with a tight-lock three-fold clasp completes it. Sapphire crystal, 200 meters of water resistance, Tough Solar charging, and Multi Band 6 radio calibration.
It wears compact for a metal G-SHOCK, and the weight sits close to the wrist rather than perching on it. For anyone who has owned the resin square and wondered what it becomes with no compromises on material.
