Most straps make you choose between leather and water. The Sternglas MARUS 2.0 Edition Küste sidesteps the question with a Hybrid band that combines leather and silicone in one 20 mm strap, here in black.

MARUS is the dive-style line in the Sternglas catalog, and the most openly maritime thing the Hamburg brand makes. The crown screws down against double gaskets, the screw-in caseback is engraved with a blue whale, and the case is rated to 20 bar, which is 200 meters of water resistance. Küste is German for coast, and it is the name Sternglas gives this edition.

The dial is dark blue under a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both faces, framed by a unidirectional 60-minute bezel and a 42 mm stainless steel case in a silver finish. Driving it is a Seiko/TMI NH35A automatic with 24 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour and roughly 41 hours of running time, with the date at six o clock. Super-LumiNova in two tones marks the hands, indices and bezel.

A diver-inspired automatic that still slides under a shirt cuff, helped considerably by the black strap.
