Silver on silver on silver. The Sternglas HAMBURG Automatic in this configuration refuses every accent color, running a silver dial into a steel case into a silver Milanese mesh bracelet, and letting the printed numerals do all the talking.

The HAMBURG line exists because Sternglas is a Hamburg company and wanted a watch that said so. Its dial descends from marine measuring instruments, which is why the numerals are bolder and the outer minute track finer than on the brand's more reduced models. The screwed caseback carries an engraved plan of the city, from the Alster to the Landungsbrücken. The Hamburg Automatik took an iF Design Award in 2023.

The case measures 42 mm in 316L stainless steel, over a gently domed satin silver dial with Luminova hands and indices. Inside sits the Miyota 8215 automatic: 42 hours of power reserve, hacking seconds, hand-winding, date. Sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating, 5 bar. The Milanaise bracelet is 2.5 mm of woven 316L mesh, 20 mm wide, with a slider clasp that stops anywhere you like.

Quiet, monochrome and easy under a cuff, despite the diameter.
