That is what the name counts. The front crystal, the display back and the panes set into the sides of the case admit light from multiple directions, and MINASE describes the effect as the seasonal scenery outside being projected onto the dial plate. The case-in-case construction underneath, where the round dial and its index ring sit inside a squared outer case, gives that light somewhere to travel.
