BERLIN black gold / Milanaise 20 gold

Gold mesh over a black dial is a 1970s idea done cleanly. The BERLIN keeps the shine and drops the fuss.

Named for the 1846 Hamburg to Berlin railway, the line carries an engraving of Hamburg's Berliner Bahnhof on its screwed caseback. What makes it unusual within Sternglas's catalog is on the front: a day-of-week indicator next to the date, switchable between English and German, driven by a Miyota GM02 quartz movement.

The black dial and gold hands sit in a 38 mm gold-tone stainless steel case under double-domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both sides, rated to 5 bar. The bracelet is the Milanaise in gold: 316L woven Milanese mesh, 2.5 mm thick, 20 mm at the lugs, with a sliding clasp that adjusts steplessly instead of by removed links.

It is light, it is adjustable, and it is the version most likely to be borrowed by somebody else in the house.
