29er Big Small Second — Stone White Dial / Stone Gray Canvas
Stone white is a difficult dial color. Too warm and it yellows, too cold and it glares. Mühle-Glashütte lands on a chalky, matte version of it here, with a petrol-toned flange to keep the edges from washing out.
This is the 29er Big Small Second, part of a range named after the 29er sailing dinghy, the youth class that leads to the Olympic 49er, and built from 2006 as an approachable route into Glashütte watchmaking. Its defining feature is the seconds display: pulled off the center and set into an open inner scale at six o'clock, a layout first shown in the Edition 1994 and now in regular production.
Slim Arabic numerals and a high-contrast minute track do the reading, with a date at three. The stainless steel case measures 42 mm across, 11.3 mm high and 49 mm lug to lug, and the stone gray canvas strap on a steel pin buckle keeps the total to just 61 grams. The SW 261-1, Version Mühle automatic runs 41 hours with stop-seconds hacking, behind anti-reflective sapphire and above a sapphire exhibition back. 10 bar.
Pale, light and easy in summer. One of the more legible dials Mühle makes.
Perfect for: white dial watch seekers, Glashütte watchmaking newcomers, lightweight canvas strap wearers.
