29er Big — Silver-Gray Dial / Coffee Brown Canvas

Coffee brown canvas warms up a silver-grey dial without turning it into a dress watch. The 29er Big handles that middle ground well, which is more or less what Mühle-Glashütte designed the line to do.

The name is nautical: the 29er dinghy is the youth class that leads sailors to the Olympic 49er, and the watch was launched in 2006 as a way into Glashütte watchmaking. Mühle's own summary of its approach is that luxury follows function, and the 29er Big is a fair test of that claim.

Stainless steel case, 42.4 mm across and 11.3 mm deep, with sapphire front and back and a screw-down crown rated to 10 bar. The silver-grey dial keeps applied indices with Super-LumiNova, luminous hands and a date at 3 o'clock. The brown canvas strap is 22 mm at the lugs. The automatic SW 200-1, Version Mühle behind it holds 41 hours and carries Mühle's patented woodpecker neck fine regulator, named for the shape of the spring that pins its index arm in place.

A watch that goes with denim and a wool coat equally, and asks nothing in return.
