29er Big — Sand Dial / Coffee Brown Canvas
A sand dial on coffee brown canvas reads as desert rather than coast, and it works. The nautic-blue rehaut around the Mühle-Glashütte 29er Big's dial keeps the maritime thread visible even when the strap argues otherwise.
The model is named for the 29er sailing dinghy, the youth boat that leads to the Olympic 49er, and was introduced in 2006 to make Glashütte watchmaking approachable. Mühle's design brief for the line is consistent: applied indices, Super-LumiNova, a contrasting flange color and no rotating bezel.
Case: stainless steel, 42.4 mm by 11.3 mm, 49 mm lug to lug, anti-reflective sapphire, screw-down crown, exhibition caseback, 10 bar. Strap: coffee brown canvas, 22 mm, steel pin buckle, quick-release spring bars. Movement: the SW 200-1, Version Mühle, an automatic with 41 hours of reserve, stop-seconds and Mühle's patented woodpecker neck regulation, whose specially shaped spring holds the index arm against both the adjusting screw and the balance cock so a shock cannot alter the rate.
Warm, earthy and quietly technical, with the date at 3 o'clock as the only complication.
Perfect for: sand dial watches, earth-tone strap pairings, rugged 42 mm automatics.
